How To Keep Your Cockapoo In Top Form (aside from Cockapoo Training)

Your dog is ready to spend whole lifetimes on simply being loyal, loving and being a cute show-off! But in exchange, it counts on you to be provide it with basic stuff: water, safe shelter, food, companionship, and the like. Take care of these, and you are sure to treasure even more the company of your Cockapoo(s).

1. External Identification. Put a collar and ID tag to your dog, making sure that your name, address and phone number are indicated. The more that you take the trouble of getting an ID tag, the more chances of it getting returned in case of the horrible chance it gets lost.

Microchip Identification. Get your dog microchipped by your vet. The chip ensures that in case your dog gets lost, it can be returned even if there is no collar ID. A scanner will be needed to check the vital information contained in the chip.

2. One simple cockapoo training rule to implement: if the dog is off the property, it needs to put on the leash. It’s not only in the best interest of the dog, or you, but also that of the community, that it be kept under supervision at all times.

3. Bring your dog to the vet for continuous checkups. If you do not have a vet, ask your local animal shelter or pet owner friend for referrals.

4. Stick to local laws advising licensing and vaccination procedures. Your local animal shelter or human society are good places to obtain these critical information.

5. Provide your dog sufficient protection. Large and active dogs need to be secured by a fenced yard together with a doghouse, but overall, dogs are not meant to be left outside unsupervised for stretches of time. Dogs are meant to enjoy companionship with their family, not alone most of the time outside.

6. Get your dog enough exercise to keep it sufficiently exercised (but not stressed out and fatigued.) Activities that provide sufficient exercise include play with the dog and walks twice a day. Any concerns about the level of exercise appropriate for your dog’s breed and particular state of health need to be directed to a veterinarian.

7. Have your dog neutered or spayed. Dogs that undergo this rather routine surgery live on to be healthier, have lesser behavior issues and generally outlast in terms of years dogs that did not have surgery.

8. Be loyal and patient to your faithful companion. If you have cockapoo training expectations and plans for your pet, ensure that these are reasonable. Keep in mind too, that practically all behavior problems have solutions; it’s just a matter of finding them. So a dog that is cuddly and friendly, but suddenly snaps at your hand when touched at the ears, may be hinting of an ear infection.

9. Help your dog to a nutritionally balanced diet, plus access to fresh water. Check your vet for advice on what and how often to feed your pet. Diet needs do change as pets get older.

10. Sign your dog up for a positive training session. Positive training is basically about safe and humane control of your pet’s behavior. The experience is another thing too, since owners gain the great opportunity to shape up the bond you share with your dog.
